City Park and Lake near Resurrection
The City has completed the master plan and design for the City Park located just west of Resurrection Cemetery and south of 83rd Street. The 27 acre park includes a two acre lake and wetlands, an existing grove of trees and native grass and wildflower planting. The park has been designed with the Rain to Recreation goals clearly in mind: to reduce flooding, protect water quality and natural habitat and to provide educational and recreational opportunities for Lenexa citizens. Park features, including a recreational fishing pier and 170 ft curved boardwalk, have been designed so they don’t adversely impact the land, but rather preserve existing natural features.
The existing pond is heavily sedimented and often covered with algae blooms. Construction of the park will include de-watering and dredging this pond to deepen it and allow for better water quality. New features such as catfish spawning tubes and wood duck houses, will encourage fish and birds to make their homes around the pond.
A trail system will allow the public to enjoy the natural habitat as well as create better access for security and maintenance personnel.
