Stormdrain Marking Event and Earth Day Celebration
On Saturday morning April 19, 2003, councilperson Jane Klein and watershed planner Laura Turnbull greeted 50 volunteers Lenexa's Earth Day celebration and fifth stormdrain marking event. Volunteers included a 4-H club, several Girl Scout Troops, a group of high school students and Lenexa citizens. We continue to work our way west, marking inlets as we go. This event focused on the area west of Lackman and east of I -435. Volunteer teams marked a total of 400 storm drains with our permanent markers (shown above) and delivered approximately 1500 educational flyers to adjacent residences. We were excited to have new participants from Debra Ryder's class at Shawnee Mission Northwest as well as the return of several enthusiastic groups! If your youth group or family is interested in participating in our next event, please contact Laura Turnbull, Watershed Planner at 913.477.7715.
