Lenexa Earth Day
More than 160 Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, troop leaders, and parent sponsors participated in Lenexa Earth Day on Saturday, April 16, 2005. Volunteers planted approximately 50 trees, collected trash along trails and streams, and participated in water quality education and an informative recycling game.
Lenexa Earth Day was sponsored by the City of Lenexa Rain to Recreation program. Council member Cindy Green welcomed the volunteers, emphasizing the importance of volunteer involvement and the role of daily environmentally-friendly practices. Green then joined the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in planting the first tree.
The City of Lenexa and the Rain to Recreation program would like to thank each Earth Day participant for their interest and involvement. As these volunteers learned, the greatest impact a citizen can have on his or her community environment is the practice of daily environmental stewardship. For more information on the Rain to Recreation program and its volunteer opportunities, see the Get Involved section of this website.
