The mission of the Watershed Management Division is to reduce flooding, protect water and environmental quality and create recreational opportunities for the citizens of Lenexa through a proactive, integrated, watershed-based approach to storm water management.
Program Description
Lenexa's Watershed Management Division was established in the summer of 2000 to implement the city's innovative new storm water management program. Building on Lenexa's Vision 2020, the city recently adopted new Watershed Management Policies, which laid the groundwork for the City's new Erosion and Sediment Control Program and the proposed Stream Buffer Program.
Together, these efforts will protect water quality and reduce the impact of new development on local streams. Revised development regulations enhance opportunities to create greenways and trails while protecting the environment and preserving wildlife habitat. The long-term success of this program, however, will rely upon the support of individuals and businesses throughout the community. City programs will focus on building community support through environmental education events. Working together with local residents, the city's new watershed management program will enhance the quality of the natural and built environments, ultimately conserving and even restoring our natural resources.
