How Will This Help Existing Residents?

There are many areas in Lenexa that currently experience flooding or significant erosion problems. The new program includes funds from the utility charges and sales tax revenue to begin to correct existing problem areas. The proposed new program will include a $27 million investment in capital projects designed to correct many of the existing problems. Not all flooding and erosion concerns can be eliminated, but over half of the capital funds will be dedicated to help correct the problems in the developed areas of Lenexa. In addition to corrective projects, the lakes and shared use detention in the undeveloped areas will help ensure that new development does not increase flooding and erosion downstream in developed areas. The recreational amenities constructed will be available to all Lenexa citizens.
