Pollution prevention
Lenexa is required to implement a Good Housekeeping and Pollution Prevention Program with the goal of preventing and reducing stormwater pollution from municipal operations.
The City of Lenexa has historically implemented a wide variety of best management practices or “BMPs” to prevent pollution from municipal operations. The majority of BMPs are in place at the Service Center where City vehicles and equipment are maintained and stored, such as leak detection for underground fuel tanks and spill cleanup kits in maintenance areas. There are also citywide BMPs practiced, such as street sweeping, fertilizer management and stream cleanups.
In 2008, the Watershed Division documented municipal BMPs in the Lenexa Good Housekeeping and Pollution Prevention Plan. An audit of municipal operations is conducted each year to determine compliance with this plan.
