Volunteer for clean water
Every year, hundreds of residents give their expertise and time as a volunteer in Lenexa. As a volunteer with the city, you have an opportunity to put your knowledge, talent and energy towards improving the quality of life in your community.
Rain to Recreation’s volunteer program makes it easy for you to find a meaningful volunteer opportunity that fits your interests, skills and schedule.
Volunteer opportunities
Seeking schools, businesses, community groups, families and individuals to volunteer in the following areas:

|
Stream cleanup
Tired of seeing your local creek or stream filled with trash? If so, sign up to host a stream cleanup. Your group will walk the length of a stream or river, collecting trash and recording information about the quantity and types of garbage removed.
You can also sign up to participate in Adopt-A-Spot, Lenexa’s cleanup and beautification program. Groups commit to cleaning the area they adopt three times a year for two years. Learn more in the Adopt-A-Spot application.
|
Monitor water quality
Free your inner scientist to examine and classify. Rain to Recreation needs groups to collect and analyze water samples, evaluate stream habitats and aquatic biological communities and inventory streamside conditions.
Vegetation management
Attention hikers, gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts: we need help with restoration activities in Lenexa’s natural areas. Maintain native prairie plants, remove invasive species, collect seeds or plant trees for the city.

Event assistance
Love crowds and keeping busy? Rain to Recreation needs event volunteers for its annual water festival, Waterfest. Work in shifts as to help with organizing, food prep, cane pole fishing, paddle boats operations, giveaway/MC support and interactive activity administration (i.e., running games for kids).
